Let me start with arguably the most important feature you need to be mindful of when choosing a carry-on luggage. And that is whether or not the bag is going to fit in the overhead bin for your airline. That's the whole point. Because if it is not going to fit in the overhead bin, it is not really much of a carry-on. For Alaska Airlines, the carry-on dimensions are 22 x 14 x 9 inches or 55 x 35 x 20 cm. These include wheels and handles. Carry-ons of these dimensions fit in the overhead bin of Alaska Airlines flights. A friend recently asked me "how strict is Alaska Airlines with carry-on size? My answer was simple.
The bag must fit in the overhead bin of the aircraft. That's how strict they are. And like stated above, it is not a true carry-on if it is not going to fit in the overhead bin. With that in mind, here are four carry-on luggage that meet the 22 x 14 x 9 inches requirements of Alaska Airlines.

One reviewer, Jennifer Ropson, who otherwise liked the bag said:
“Honestly, it seems like it’s great quality and it’s super cute in person, but I ended up returning it and only giving it four stars because I just didn’t feel like it was very spacious inside.”

2. MIXI Carry-On Luggage
The MIXI Carry-On Luggage caught my attention for one simple reason: it gives you a lot of packing space without being a heavy suitcase. It measures 21.65 x 14 x 9 inches, including the wheels, so it stays within Alaska Airlines’ 22 x 14 x 9-inch limit. It also weighs just 8 pounds.
And if you're the kind of person who always feels like they need just a little more room in their carry-on, you'll probably appreciate what MIXI has done here. You get a 42L main compartment, plus another 6L of expandable space. Inside, there are compression straps, a waterproof pocket for wet items, a separate pocket for smaller things, and even a laptop compartment that can hold a 17-inch laptop. There’s also a side pocket for your water bottle or umbrella and a front pocket for things you want to grab quickly.
I also like that it’s a softside suitcase. The polyester fabric is designed to resist water and scratches, while the reinforced stitching, sturdy zippers, spinner wheels, and adjustable handle are all built for frequent travel.
But there’s something you need to know before you buy it.
The extra 6L of space comes from the expandable section, and one reviewer found that this creates a problem:
“This suitcase is great except that if you open the extension it’s too big for a carry on. Wheels work great and handle also is nice.”
And honestly, that’s an important point. If you're flying Alaska Airlines and want to keep this as a true carry-on, don't expand it. The unexpanded dimensions are within the airline's limit, but opening the expansion can push it beyond the 9-inch depth requirement.
So, if you're someone who likes having plenty of room but can resist the temptation to unzip that extra section, the MIXI is a very practical option. You get good organization, a lightweight suitcase, and plenty of space without going over Alaska Airlines' carry-on dimensions.
My take: I’d consider this one if packing space is more important to you than having a hard-shell suitcase. Just treat that expansion zipper as your emergency option—not something to use when you're flying Alaska Airlines.
3. KONO Carry-On Luggage
If you prefer a hard-sided suitcase, the KONO Carry-On is where this list starts to get a little different.
The first two options we looked at are softside bags. KONO takes the other approach with a hard shell made from a PC+ABS material, while still keeping the suitcase at 22 x 14 x 9 inches, including the wheels and handles. At just 5.5 pounds, it's also considerably lighter than many hard-shell carry-ons.
There’s a good amount of room inside, too. The standard capacity is about 35.5L, but you can unzip the expansion section to take that up to around 42L. The interior is divided into two fully lined compartments and includes packing straps, so you can keep your clothes and other belongings from becoming a pile of stuff the moment you open the suitcase.
I also like the fact that KONO hasn't forgotten about the little things that make a suitcase easier to live with. You get 360-degree spinner wheels, an adjustable aluminum handle, soft silicone handles for lifting, and a TSA-approved lock. The textured exterior is also designed to hide some of the scratches and scuffs that inevitably come with traveling.
There is one thing I would keep in mind, though: the expansion feature comes with the same consideration we saw with the MIXI. The listed 22 x 14 x 9-inch dimensions are the unexpanded size. If you open that extra 1.6 inches, you're going beyond the 9-inch depth we're trying to stay within for Alaska Airlines.
That aside, KONO gives you something the first two bags don't: a lightweight hard shell.
So if you prefer the protection and structure of a hard-sided suitcase, but don't want to carry around a heavy piece of luggage, this one deserves a closer look.
My take: Between the first three options, this is the one I'd look at if you specifically want a hard-shell carry-on. The LOVEVOOK and MIXI make more sense if you prefer softside luggage and easy-access pockets, while KONO is the better fit if you like the structure and feel of a hard case.
4. LUGGEX Airline Approved Carry-On Suitcase
If you’ve made it this far and you're thinking, “I want a hard-shell carry-on, but I don't want to spend a fortune on something that's going to be heavy,” the LUGGEX is another one worth considering.
It measures 21.5 x 13.8 x 9 inches with the wheels, so it stays comfortably within Alaska Airlines' 22 x 14 x 9-inch limit. It weighs about 7.5 pounds and gives you around 40L of packing space, which is a pretty good combination if you want to take advantage of the space you're allowed without carrying a suitcase that feels like a workout.
Like the KONO, this is a hard-shell suitcase, but LUGGEX uses a polycarbonate shell. You also get 360-degree spinner wheels, a built-in TSA-approved combination lock, compression straps, mesh pockets, and several interior compartments to keep everything organized.
But there's one part of this suitcase I think is worth paying attention to: the telescoping handle.
One customer had a particularly bad experience, writing:
“Terrible! Took a trip to Germany, and the handle broke before we even got on the plane.”
That would certainly make me hesitate.
But there's more to the story. The same customer later updated the review after contacting LUGGEX and learning that the suitcase came with a three-year warranty. The company replaced the bag, and the replacement apparently worked well. The updated review praised the replacement and the company's customer service.
"Received a brand new carry-on bag! They DO honor their warranty! This one works perfectly!," exclaimed the reviewer, noting that the only problem they had with the other bag was the telescoping handle that broke. "The replacement they provided has no problems whatsoever!," the reviewer wrote, adding: "The bag itself is great, holds a lot, well made, and rolls very well. Excellent customer service!!! I would certainly recommend this company!"
That doesn't mean you should ignore the original problem. A broken handle is the last thing you want when you're dragging a suitcase through an airport. But I think the warranty response is worth knowing about if you're considering this bag.
And there's another reason I like having LUGGEX here: it gives us a second hard-shell option to compare with KONO. KONO is lighter at 5.5 pounds, while LUGGEX gives you a 40L capacity and a slightly more substantial polycarbonate construction.
My take: If you prefer hard-shell luggage, I'd put this one on your shortlist. The warranty is reassuring, but I'd still keep an eye on the handle since that was the main complaint in the review. Overall, it rounds out this list nicely: two softside options and two hard-shell options, giving you a genuine choice rather than four bags that are basically the same.
